presented by Tadamon! / Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival with support from McGill Student’s in Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights & Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) at Concordia University.
47SOUL
The members are rooted in Bilad Al-Sham, spanning the divides from Amman to the Galilee, the Golan Heights to Ramallah. This new sound of 47SOUL has rapidly amassed fans in the Middle East and Europe by blasting the electric Arabic debka sound through underground music scenes.
On top of the beats that have been bumping in the Middle East for centuries, 47SOUL hypes it up with analog synthesizers, hypnotic guitar lines, and shattering verses from the four singers. Every show ends in relentless dance and trance from all parties involved.
Their lyrics, mixing Arabic and English, call for celebration and freedom in the struggle for equality, inside Bilad Al Sham and throughout the world.
Nantali Indongo + Meryem Saci
Nantali Indongo : Daughter of parents who were activists by circumstance from small Caribbean islands, Nantali Indongo follows those natural instincts; carrying the torch into classrooms and communities, into studios and onto stages, with master’s tools and microphones; exposing to educate, rhyming to rouse. All of that, so that the top tips over and humbles itself; the bottom sees the booby traps and makes an educated move. Co-founder of the Hip Hop No Pop series – an educational and interactive workshop series that looks at the non-violent origins of Hip Hop culture — Researcher/writer-broadcaster at CBC Radio Montreal — Storyteller. Sense of purpose: to push conversations forward to a place where positive inspiration becomes positive action.
Meryem Saci : Meduza was born in Algiers, Algeria, came to Canada in July 2000. Joined Nomadic Massive in summer 2005 up in Maison des Jeunes Cote-des-Neiges. “Meeting Nomadic Massive opened my eyes to the fact that some people still care, not just for music, but for a better living situation and that you can have an impact on this world, that it matters who you are and what you bring. We all have to work and pay bills. As soon as I started my career in real estate, I noticed how easy it was to get caught up in the work, run and pay bills cycle, and for what? If you’re not aware and conscious of what you are doing and where it’s bringing you, you get lost.”
