Since March 15th, the people of Syria have courageously taken to the streets in peaceful protest to demand freedom and justice, and specifically the release of all political prisoners and an end to emergency law. These legitimate demands have been met with brutal violence by security forces, resulting in the death of hundreds of people as of April 11th according to Amnesty International. In one day, Friday 22 April 2011, more than 100 peaceful demonstrators were killed at the hands of the Syrian security forces.
The use of lethal force by Syrian state authorities against protesters is morally unjustifiable, abhorrent and a stain on all of humanity. Today’s events expose the true face of the Syrian regime.
Montreal ad-hoc committee in solidarity with the Syrian freedom movement is calling on Quebecois and Canadians of all backgrounds to come out in solidarity with the entirely justifiable and reasonable demands raised by the thousands of courageous Syrians of all backgrounds, unified in the streets and squares of towns, villages and cities throughout Syria. Among these: stop the killings, release of political prisoners, hold to account those responsible for the repression; and allow freedom of expression and association.
The demonstration condemns the violence committed by the security forces against peaceful demonstrators in Syria and across the world and supports their legitimate demands for democracy, freedom and dignity.
Join us in saying YES to equality and freedom, and no to oppression and injustice.
No to foreign intervention, No to foreign support for Assad, Yes to solidarity!
