Israel has denied that two of its air force fighter jets fired over a German naval ship patrolling the Lebanese coast.

A report in the Der Tagesspiegel newspaper quoted a German junior defence minister as telling a parliamentary committee that two Israeli F-16 fighters flew low over the ship, firing twice.

The jets also activated infrared countermeasures to ward off any rocket attack, the paper said, in an advance release ahead of Thursday’s edition.

Human Rights Watch had researchers in Lebanon and Israel throughout the recent conflict. They were the first to confirm Israel’s use of cluster munitions when they documented an attack on Blida on July 19. Immediately after the cease-fire, they spent six days in south Lebanon, primarily looking at the cluster munition situation.  (Lire la suite…)

Les fusils se sont peut-être calmés, mais des centaines de milliers de bombes à sous-munitions disséminées dans le sud du Liban lors d’au moins 770 frappes israéliennes mettent en danger de mort les humains et les animaux. Depuis le cessez-le-feu, le 14 août, 156 personnes (donnée à jour le 27 octobre 2006) ont été victimes des sous-munitions. Quatre-vingt-dix pour cent des ces personnes sont des civils, dont les tiers sont âgés de moins de 18 ans.

Incidents récents:

17 novembre 2006 – Un citoyen libanais a été blessé par une bombe à sous-munitions israélienne dans le village Yanouh. L’explosion a menée à l’amputation des doigts d’Adel Haider (28 ans). (Lire la suite…)

En dépit des demandes modérées qui lui sont faites en vertu de la résolution 1701 de l’ONU, Israël viole régulièrement les termes de l’entente de cessez-le-feu.

Jeudi Decembre 14 2006
L’Armée Israélienne a violé brièvement la Ligne Bleue, dessinée par l’ONU, rapporte l’Agence Nationale d’Information Libanaise. L’agence rapporte que deux tanks Israéliens et à peu près 60 soldats ont pénétré 3 kilomètres dans le sud du Liban et ‘ouvert le feu’ sur deux bergers près des contestées Fermes de Chebaa. Les bergers, identifiés comme étant Omar et Hicham Abdul Al, se sont abrités dans la ferme de Halta, pendant qu’une partie de leur troupeau était frappé par des tirs israéliens.

Lundi 11 Decembre 2006
Des chasseurs israéliens ont violé l’espace aérien libanais. Ils se sont déplacés à basse altitude où se trouvent des Forces intérimaires des Nations unies au Liban (FINUL). Ils se sont ensuite déplacés vers les villes de Tyr, Marjayun et Nabatiyeh. (DPA)

Israel has acknowledged for the first time that it attacked Hezbollah targets during the second Lebanon war with phosphorus shells. White phosphorus causes very painful and often lethal chemical burns to those hit by it, and until recently Israel maintained that it only uses such bombs to mark targets or territory.

The posters refer to the current leadership race in the Canadian Federal Liberal Party. In English Canada, candidate Michael Ignatieff remarked in August that he wasn’t losing any sleep over the massacre of Qana. Recently in left-leaning Quebec, he said that his comment had been a mistake, continuing, “I was a professor of human rights, and I am also a professor of the laws of war, and what happened in Qana was a war crime, and I should have said that. That’s clear.” Bob Rae and Stephane Dion, rivals for the Liberal leadership position, immediately denounced his statement.
