Israeli military bulldozers demolished eight Palestinian houses southwest of Nablus Wednesday morning, witnesses said.
The demolitions are the first following a wave of eviction and demolition notices handed out by Israeli authorities to Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in March and April.
Ghassan Doglus, the head of a local committee against settlements, said that bulldozers backed by soldiers invaded the Jetit area, near Aqraba village and began destroying buildings.
Jad’an Qasim, chair of the Al-Falah Society, identified owners of the properties to be demolished as Zayd Bani Minna, Khalil Bani Jabir, Jamil Bani Jabir, Ghallab Hammad, Wasif Hammad, Muhammad Hammad, and Abdullah Bani Jabir.
The effort marks first follow-through of three sets of demolition notices handed out in the West Bank and Jerusalem. Earlier in March and Apriil residents of Al-Baqa’a village in south Hebron and the Silwan neighborhood in East Jerusalem were warned that their homes would be destroyed so a settlement can be expanded and park can be built on the areas. Forty will be rendered homeless in Al-Baqa’a and 1,500 in Silwan.
