As revolution spreads from Tunisia, to Egypt and now Libya, Yemen, Bahrain, and Syria, how do we as anti-authoritarians and anarchists, understand the nature of these revolutions? How do they encompass an anti-authoritarian spirit in terms of their organizing? How do they challenge power structures, hierarchy and capitalism, and contribute to a continual process of decolonization in the region?

This workshop will also discuss how do we as anti-authoritarians and anarchists movements relate to the ongoing struggles , and how we envision our solidarity with these struggles. What role can international solidarity play in challenging Western colonial interests in the region, given that that these interests have led to the ongoing occupation Iraq, have supported Israeli apartheid and continued colonization of Palestine, and have denied true political and economic self-determination to people in the region.Where do we focus our efforts and who do we stand in solidarity with in these movements? Finally, this workshop will examine lessons can be learned here for bringing “Tahrir Square” home, for if we are to end colonialism and capitalism abroad, then we also need to struggle against them here on Turtle Island.

This workshop will be presented by members of Tadamon! Montreal, an anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist, anti-colonial collective that works in solidarity with social justice movements in the Middle East. For more information, visit: www.tadamon.ca & check out our table at the bookfair!
