Join us for an emergency rally in collaboration with Occupy Montreal – Occupons Montréal to denounce the Israeli military raid on two international humanitarian aid boats, the Canadian Boat to Gaza named the Tahrir (Arabic for liberation) and the Irish ship to Gaza the Saoirse, both traveling on a solidarity mission to the besieged Gaza Strip.
As the Israeli government moves to deport kidnapped international solidarity activists and journalists from the Freedom Waves flotilla, now is the time for people in Montreal to express solidarity on the streets. This street protest aims to strongly denounce the Israeli raid on the Freedom Waves flotilla, while calling attention to the complicity of the Conservative government of Canada toward the ongoing Israeli siege on Gaza and ongoing apartheid policies enforced against the Palestinian people in the West Bank.
In Gaza, the Palestinian people continue to struggle with the daily realities of life under Israeli siege. According to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza, “Israel has continuously closed all border crossings to the Gaza Strip for over three years. The illegal Israeli-imposed closure of the Gaza Strip, which has steadily tightened since June 2007, has had a disastrous impact on the humanitarian and economic situation in the Gaza Strip.”
Beyond denouncing the Israeli military raid on the Freedom Waves solidarity mission to Gaza, this action also takes place within the International Week of Action Against the Israeli Apartheid Wall — a week of events and actions coordinated by the Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign. In this context, we will join together in Montreal to speak-out against Israeli apartheid policies in the Palestinian West Bank lands, where Israel continues to construct the apartheid wall that divides and annexes Palestinian lands — a wall found illegal under international law by the International Court of Justice.
Despite the intense injustice represented by the Israeli siege on Gaza and military occupation in the West Bank, the Arab uprisings across the region, from Tunisia to Egypt provide a light of hope for the Palestinian struggle for freedom. Indeed, many understand the uprisings as a broader Intifada against US and Israeli supported regimes, like the overthrown Hosni Mubarak regime in Egypt, which work intensely to undermine the self-determination and freedoms of the Palestinian people and peoples across North Africa and the Middle East.
In an effort to highlight the continuity between the ongoing Arab Intifada and the now global occupy movement that Tadamon! collective in Montreal moves to hold this Gaza solidarity rally at Occupy Montreal – Occupons Montréal.
Also we will join together in Montreal with the Décolonisons Montreal contingent at Occupy Montreal – Occupons Montréal to express solidarity with First Nations struggles in Canada against colonization at home, across Turtle Island, where indigenous peoples continue to struggle against policies of institutional racism, economic injustice and occupation of traditional territories.
“The Occupy Wall Street movement and its counterparts across the US, Europe, Latin America and elsewhere are — at least partially — inspired by the Arab Spring for democracy and social justice. Leaders of the Arab popular revolts tell us that they, in turn, were largely inspired by our own, decades-old struggle against Israel’s occupation of our land, its system of discrimination that matches the UN’s definition of apartheid, and its denial of the right of Palestinian refugees to return home,” outlined the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee in a recent statement.
Join us at Occupy Montreal to denounce the Israeli attack on the Freedom Waves flotilla action, to speak out for the people of Palestine and to join an inspiring global movement for social justice across all borders, all around the world.

Just curious – why is it that Tadamon criticizes the Israeli government for closing off Gaza, but doesn’t criticize the Egyptian government. When will their be an anti-Egyptian Apartheid march?
